TACA - AVIANCA ALLIANCE TO INCREASE CONNECTIONS
Both companies announced the creation of a new holding which will set itself up as the leading group of Latin American airlines with over 100 destinations. Ortiz added that now there will be more connection possibilities from Lima to Madrid and Barcelona (Spain) via Bogota (Colombia) as Colombia’s Avianca flies with many frequencies to these European destinations and Central America’s Taca hub in South America is precisely in Lima. "This alliance is very important for Peru because Taca’s hub in Lima will be promoted, Avianca has long-range aircrafts, so now Taca will fly to many destinations that it could not arrive before," he said. Regarding the connections between Lima and North America, Ortiz said that the alliance will enable to access new cities like Washington and Los Angeles from United States and other cities from Canada, among other destinations and with an adequate fleet. Ortiz said that the alliance between Taca and Avianca will be operational in the next 60 to 90 days because it is a process that must be done carefully for the greatest benefits for users.
TACA LIKELY TO
DEFINE EXPANSION IN
“Peru
is a very important country for us, where we
feel good for its economic growth even after the
crisis, and we plan to develop many more options
and alternatives in the country,” he said. The expansion plan regarding domestic flights is not ready yet, but they will perform the corresponding studies to identify the potential routes, Kriete stated. Especific studies could be ready by the middle of 2010 and Arequipa and Tacna are very interesting destinies in this project, the executive added.
PERU:
COMPETITION MAKES PRICE OF "Our prices, compared to equivalent services in similar schedules currently offered by the monopoly operator, are 33% lower, so now people can buy for US $40 the tickets that used to cost US $60,” said Forsyth.
APEC TOURISM WORKING
GROUP Around 85 representatives from the 21 APEC economies, including 50 APEC tourism senior officials and six representatives from the APEC Secretariat (Singapore), will attend the meeting. For the Apec member countries, sustainable tourism is a key economic driver for the Asia-Pacific region, creating jobs and promoting investment and development. Minister Perez said that there are currently several ongoing tourism-related projects and one of the most important in Peru is the community-based tourism program. "In the APEC forum, which accounts for 50 percent of the world's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), community-based tourism has progressed a lot and the working group is focusing on this issue. We are contributing and sharing our experience," he said.
PERU TO PRESENT COMMUNITY He recalled that, during the 33rd Meeting held in Brunei last year, Peru submitted five projects which were approved because of their importance. "We are considering this new proposal, because we believe that such fields have a high potential for growth," he stated. The thermal water project was developed based on statistics Peru data, and because it is linked to health tourism sector, which is also growing. "To date, Peru has registered 280 out of a total of 600 tourist thermal fountains that could be used. However, an integral approach is required if a high quality product is to be obtained," he noted.
MORE SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS TO BE Astete said that in January of this year six security cameras were installed inside and outside the sanctuary, which allowed the improvement of the security of the tourists. “In the next weeks the National culture Institute will purchase two new surveillance cameras to be added to the first 6 that were installed in January to reinforce the security inside and outside the citadel,” he told Andina.
Four cameras were installed outside the
monument. While other two were installed
inside the citadel, which provide a view of
the central part of the citadel. He noted that although no act of violence towards the monument or the tourists have been registered yet, the installation of the cameras will make the tourist feel more secure during tours around Machu Picchu.
UNITED ARAB EMIRATES FOREIGN Also, accompanied by important official Rien Ebrain Redha Al Jasini. They arrived in a private flight on at Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport, in Cusco, at 17:30 hours (22:30 GMT). Nahyan will return on last Sunday to Lima to start an official
agenda of activities with the Peruvian Government.
PERU RANKS THIRD AS
BEST DESTINATION "Overall, the future focus seems to be on the larger Latin American economies, such as Peru, ranking third alongside with Argentina and Mexico, with a few bolder investors testing the opportunities in other countries", the report said. There is a move in favor of Peru’s manufacturing sector, with investment intentions here rising from 10 percent to 11 percent. Service industry investments fall from 12 percent to 8 percent. "Between next year and 2013/14, Peru rises from 6th place to joint 3rd alongside Mexico and Argentina in the table of investment intentions. But despite this rise, the percentage of investors planning an investment falls from 11 percent to 10 percent, a further indication of the extent to which investments patterns are changing", the report said. Peru’s own investment intentions favor Brazil both in the year ahead and in five years, but an initial enthusiasm for India in the next year disappears in the five year table in favor of Argentina. Peruvian business gives the highest approval ratings for their country’s tax law in our survey, with 72 percent saying that Peru’s tax policy provides a competitive advantage in international markets, and 56 percent saying that the tax authority is helpful. But by contrast, 67 percent say they would not be prepared to provide more information to the authorities in exchange for light touch regulation, and 50 percent say a move in this direction would make no difference to their tax policies. Peru thus seems to be one of the most skeptical countries in our survey of views on the OECD proposals, but this may be because business feels that the Peruvian tax system is already well run. KPMG's president in Peru, Oscar Caipo, stated the global economic crisis has not stopped investment flows to Latin America, and even venture capital are expected to flow to the region. “More than 110 private investment groups are still interested in investing in the region, mainly in Brazil and Mexico, but there are also other important markets such as Peru, Colombia and Chile”, he added. For this study KPMG has focused on seven large Latin American economies, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela.

DEPECHE MODE'S KEYBOARDIST PROMISES “Indeed, we don't have much time right now, but I'm planning to come back before the year's end to feel part of that city's magic energy”, he stated to a local TV station. Fletcher said he was very happy for bringing the band's first concert in Lima as part of their "Tour of the Universe" and promised that together with Dave Gahan and Martin Gore -the other members of the band-, he will offer their best to Peruvian fans, gathered at the Monumental Stadium tonight. “We are very happy with our first concert here, we know our Peruvian fans are very excited to listen to our music, so we're gonna give them the best", he added. Fletcher said he was pleased to stay longer in Lima since he only stayed for a few days the last time he visited our country, that was two years ago when he DJed at an electronic music party. Fletcher highlighted Depeche Mode has been playing some of its best shows ever on this tour, despite all the personal problems the members of the band had faced. "Singer Dave Gahan has been sidelined no less than three times this year. but when Depeche made it to the stage, that's it", he said. Touring may be the primary reason Depeche Mode remains in the upper echelons of still-active rock acts and not an answer on a "Totally '80s" trivia quiz, stated Fletcher.
"A lot of the electronic
bands were very studio-tied, but touring always has been a big
factor with us, right from the early days. We did it the
old-fashioned way, starting in small clubs and moving to theaters,
to arenas and then stadiums," the keyboardist added.
PROMPERU TO ORGANIZE 2010
EXPO “In coordination with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency's (Apex-Brasil) we created a work plan for 2010, when Expo Peru will take place,” he added. He pointed out that in the 2010 Expo Peru, they plan to arrive with a multisectorial trade mission, organize a gastronomic festival and exhibit flagship products. “One of the sectors that have confirmed its participation is silverware through the Silver Patronage,” he said.
He added that in his
visit to Brazil accompanied by a trade mission from the textile
sector, Brazilian entrepreneurs showed greater disposition to
increase the purchase of these products.
AREQUIPA PLANS TO OFFER Municipality official Amparo Quispe said the tourist ticket would include guided visits to colonial-style houses, ancient temples, houses of eminent Arequipa-born personalities, museums and the countryside. Quispe added that the ticket price would also include bus transportation to/from the countryside and restaurants. In the next days, this tourism promotion initiative will be discussed by a special committee, which will submit a report to Arequipa's mayor. The second largest city in Peru, Arequipa is one of the country's most attractive cities, prettily situated among white-capped volcanic peaks. The beautiful Plaza de Armas, with its gardens and central fountain, is the focus of urban life and evening social activities, framed by impressive colonial arcades and architecture and the elegant white facade of the huge Cathedral. One of the city's highlights is the remarkable Santa Catalina Convent, a complex enclosing a complete city within a city, and one of the country's most fascinating colonial religious buildings.
